Welcome, to this website all about shot put, introducing different styles, which will benefit different people to their strengths. Here you will find explanations and instructions for how to carry out roational, glide and the shuffle styles. To complete beginners I advise starting with Shuffle, then glide and finally rotational seeing as this is the order coaches normally teach their trainees. Also since this is the order from least to most difficult to learn. Me as a person would however not call myself an expert and would therefore advise further research before seeing which style fits you the best, seeing as many athletes never decide to learn rotational and become successful using for example glide instead.
In shot put, there is of cource special equipment. I use wrist straps and throwing shoes, specifically Betterbody's elastic wrist wraps and Nike Zoom SD 4. I would say non of which is needed if not using rotational where throwing shoes makes rotating easier. There are also different shot puts indoor and outdoor, outdoor-iron shots and indoor- normal iron shots coated in rubber. However, is nothing to pay too much attention to.
I, the author of this website, am Emilia Wamsler, a 15 year old, Swedish/Danish thrower. Most success found in discus having been 4th at nationals 2018 for girls my age in Sweden. However, I also throw shot put and javelin, and have fallen in love with the complexity of all different styles found in shot put. I have personally done both glide and as of currently 2018 rotational style. I am also currently 7th in Sweden, in shot put. This website is also the product in my IB MYP 5 Personal Project which is meant to be challenging and teach the student to be independent in their learning.
